Your data, handled plainly.

SEIS Investments is an independent education and journalism site about the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme, published by [OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] [, trading as SEIS Investments,] of [REGISTERED ADDRESS] [company number COMPANY NUMBER]. For everything in this notice, that publisher is the data controller.

We have not appointed a data protection officer because the law does not require one for an operation of our size and kind. The person responsible for data protection can be reached at hello@seis.investments.

Each purpose, its lawful basis and how long we keep the data

Contact form. We use your name, email, chosen topic and message to answer you. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to correspondence sent to us. Messages arrive in our editorial mailbox rather than the website database, and we delete enquiry threads no later than [24 months] after they close.

Contribute form. We use what you send to judge whether your experience fits a piece we are working on, and to contact you about it. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in sourcing editorial material you have volunteered. Nothing you send is published without coming back to you first; publication itself then rests on your consent, which you may withdraw before we go to press. Unused submissions are deleted within [24 months].

Newsletter. We use your email address to send the briefing you asked for. Lawful basis: consent. Every issue will carry an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from the list rather than parking it somewhere. Until our email service provider is confirmed, sign-ups reach the same editorial mailbox as the forms and are held on the same terms.

Security and hosting logs. Our host and our security software process IP addresses, user agents and request data to detect attacks, block abusive traffic and keep the site available. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website. Logs rotate on a short cycle, typically [30 days].

Analytics. When analytics run, they collect aggregate information such as pages viewed and approximate location, to show us what readers find useful. UK law now permits aggregate statistics cookies without consent provided we tell you clearly and give you a free, simple opt-out; our Cookie Policy explains exactly which route we take and how to opt out or refuse. We do not use analytics for advertising or to identify individual visitors.

One ask from our side: please do not send us sensitive personal data (health, finances beyond your SEIS story, or anything about third parties who have not agreed) through the forms. Edit it out and we will never miss it.

Who we share it with

Suppliers who process data on our documented instructions: our hosting provider (Hostinger), our security software provider (Defiant Inc., which operates Wordfence), and, once confirmed, an email service provider for the newsletter [ESP NAME]. Our Video Desk links out to videos on YouTube rather than embedding them, so nothing loads from YouTube while you are on our site; once you follow a link, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies. We disclose data beyond this only where the law requires it. We do not sell personal data and no advertising networks operate on this site.

International transfers

Some suppliers process data outside the UK, notably in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by a recognised safeguard: a UK adequacy decision (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the supplier is certified) or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your data (access), ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or give it to you in a portable form. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it. Write to hello@seis.investments; we respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, tell us first and we will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and deal with it properly, as the Data Protection Act 2018 now requires. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk at any time.

What we do not do

No selling of data. No advertising profiles. No automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. The site is written for adults dealing with investment and tax; it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect children’s data.

Changes

We update this notice when our processing changes, and we change the date at the top when we do. Significant changes will be flagged on the homepage or in the newsletter.
